Timeless Wisdom of Augustus Waters:
I wish you could see all these people are going nuts over you man!
There's literally no one in the world I’d rather give the longest hug than you, bro!
"Life is not a wish-granting factory."
— Augustus Waters, The Fault in Our Stars (John Green)
This marks the first post of its kind on this page, where I’ll be exploring quotes and literary phrases I’ve fallen in love with.
And, of course, the first one has to be from The Fault in Our Stars by John Green.
Personally, The Fault in Our Stars was a dense book for me to digest. I read it for the first time back in school, while running a 103°F fever on a cold Bangalore night, with an exam the next day that I hadn’t studied for. I still remember crying multiple times that night, not only because of the book but because I was in a mental state of chaos.
The Fault in Our Stars is one of those rare books I can revisit multiple times and always take away something new. As J.K. Rowling said, "Every book that can be read multiple times was written from the soul." And this one certainly was.
"My life is a roller coaster ride that only goes up."
I found an immense amount of motivation in that quote, especially considering where I was at the time—rock bottom. Hearing that from Augustus, a terminally ill cancer patient whose days were numbered, gave me a push. If he could have such optimism, then I could pull myself together for the next day’s exam.
What better metaphor than a roller coaster to describe life?
These past few days have been a roller coaster of their own. I’ve won a competition, lost someone special, messed up exams, done exceptionally well in others, joined a couple of clubs, faced the dilemma of choosing between academics and personal interests, and had to choose better opportunities over the dream of a perfect college life.
So, yeah—life has had its fair share of ups and downs.
But let's delve into the philosophy behind "only goes up."
This isn’t just blind optimism. It’s a mindset, a way of approaching life with resilience. We often construct fantasies in our minds about how things should go, and when life doesn’t align with our expectations, we feel beaten down.
One of the most beautiful aspects of life, though, is its unpredictability. Imagine how boring it would be if we knew exactly what tomorrow would bring. Uncertainty is what drives us forward—the hope for a better tomorrow is why we keep striving in the present, right?
Once we embrace this truth, we can appreciate the small, yet significant, decisions we make as the captains of our lives. We navigate through both the highs and the lows, steering our own course.
So, my friends, let’s adopt the timeless wisdom of Augustus Waters and make each day count!
P.S.: Make someone smile today. Cheer someone up for no reason—that might be the warmest part of their day.

Another great blog :)
That's mind-blowing! The quote you mentioned is more of an affirmation to condition the subconscious mind. Try reading Joseph Murphy books
